Our next play reading is on Monday 2 November at the Centrepoint Library, Im Lohnhof 8, 4051 Basel.  Members and non-members are welcome.

Please arrive between 7pm and 7.30pm.  Centrepoint shares its entrance with the Musik Museum and can be found by walking through a church courtyard into a smaller courtyard.  The shared entrance is on the right hand side - then follow the Semi-Circle signs.  We will start reading promptly at 7.30pm.

This time, by popular request, we will read two short plays by George Bernard Shaw:

“The Dark Lady of the Sonnets”: while waiting to meet his “dark lady” at Whitehall Castle, William Shakespeare meets Queen Elizabeth I, who casually drops beautifully turned phrases, while trying to see him off. This charming and flirtatious comedy, which was written for a performance in aid of the project for establishing a National Theatre as a memorial to Shakespeare, shows us Shaw at his best.

“Augustus Does His Bit”:  A typical figure of Shavian ridicule, an upper class nincompoop, is in charge of a fortification on the English coast during the First World War. With an innocence reminiscent of “Dad's Army”, he is relieved of military plans by a female spy who is far ahead of him in both brains and wit.
