Our next play reading is on Monday 9 January, at the Centrepoint Library, Im Lohnhof 8, 4051 Basel.  Members and non-members are welcome.

We will read "Breaking the Code" by Hugh Whitemore.

Master playwright, Hugh Whitemore, dramatizes the story of Alan Turing, the computer pioneer, who broke the code of the German Enigma machines during World War II.  Part of Turing's quirkiness was his lack of concern for the discretion needed to protect homosexuals from the indecency laws in Britain in the 1950s, which resulted in the state simultaneously hounding and heroising him.  David Jacobi starred in successful runs of this play in both London and Broadway in 1987/8, as well as in the BBC film in 1996.  In 2014 the film "The Imitation Game" starring Benedict Cumberbatch, based on this story, was a critical and commercial success.

You can arrive any time after 7pm.  The reading will begin promptly at 7.30pm.  Centrepoint shares its entrance with the Musik Museum and can be found by walking through a church courtyard into a smaller courtyard.  The shared entrance is on the right hand side - then follow the Semi-Circle signs upstairs to the Library.
