Stella (Mrs Patrick Campbell) Barbara Clark
GBS (G.B. Shaw) Norman Koeth
The play is based on the letters interchanged between 1899 and 1939 by G.B. Shaw and Mrs Patrick Campbell, one of the best actresses of the 19th century and played Eliza Doolitte in the 1914 "Pygmalion".
These two walked hand-in-hand through their quater-century of close friedship, Shaw's greatness was steadily and triumphantly increasing, while Mrs Campbell's was more or less stzeadily on the wane. But throughout that time the strength of her personaltiy, the quickness and sharpness of her wit, were on a par with his won. Their correspondence provides a moving record of a profound and muss tested friendship, and perpetuates the legend of Mrs Patrick Cambell quite as radiantly as that of Bernard Shaw.
